Intentions

I’m not going to belittle you by rattling off Webster’s dictionary definitions of intentions. But I am going to tell you why it's so important to set some intentions before you start creating your big goals for this upcoming year (or even new life chapter).

Why setting intentions are important

Intention setting is the pre-requisite for goal setting.

If you have ever sat down to create goals at work with your manager, without having any sort of context as to what is expected of you in your role, or without putting any thought into the intentions you have in your personal life…you know this exercise can be so HARD, and kind of annoying.

So if you do this quick work before you sit down to write your SMART goals, you’ll save yourself a huge headache and create goals that you’re actually excited about achieving.

What are intentions

If I put it into my own words, an intention is a vibe; it can be synonymous to a vision, a feeling, or a motivation.

Without intentions…

A year without any sort of intention is like going down a set of rapids in a boat without a paddle. You’re a bit out of control, you might bump into some boulders…translation, you’re just letting life happen to you.

We have allllll been there. I can think of so many times where I have been flailing about without intention. It doesn’t feel great.

With intentions…

When you set your year off with intentions, you have a paddle and you’re able to bob and weave around the various obstacles or opportunities that come your way. You can choose your path and make decisions, versus letting life happen to you.

I want you to be able to reflect at the end of this year and say, “I was intentional. I made decisions that were right for me and my family. And I was in the driver’s seat.”

And how good does that sound?

And it’s not to say that it will be without spontaneity, but it will give you an undercurrent to keep you moving forward in the direction that feels right for you, your family and the growth, be it personal or professional, that you want to achieve.

A guided meditation to help you uncover your 2023 intentions

I’m going to tap into my yogi side, and lead you through a guided meditation.

If you’re multitasking, you can listen in and feel where this meditation takes you as you do other things. And you can always come back to this meditation later when you have the time to sit quietly, with your eyes closed.

Step 1: Find a comfortable place to be

I encourage you to find a comfortable place to be. A place where you feel calm, safe, secure  and where you (hopefully) won’t be interrupted.

step 2: SIT OR RECLINE

Position yourself in a comfortable seated or reclined position.

STEP 3: CLOSE OR LOWER YOUR EYES

I’d encourage you to close or lower your eyes, if it’s safe to do so, so you’re not distracted by the outside world.
