6 tips for figuring out how to efficiently job search
So you want to land a new job!
Perhaps it’s your goal for the year or your quarter. Maybe it’s been on the to-do list for a few years but life, and kids happened.
You’ve decided you’re ready. Or let’s be honest…you’ve already applied for a few of the “quick apply” jobs on LinkedIn. I see you and I’ve been you.
But you’re ready to really get serious…where do you start? I’m sharing 6 tips to be more efficient in your job search to land your #dreamjob.
I use the word efficient because I know you, and the LAST thing you want or need is to be starting your job searching process at 7:30pm each night, after kids are asleep, and staying up until the wee hours.
Prep-work for job searching
Before you submit even one resume…I have some homework for you. Scroll down and listen to the episodes I have linked at the end of this post. These episodes will help you get super clear on the job or career you are after, the mindset necessary to embark on this job searching journey, and some inspiration that you CAN love work.
So you’ve done the prep work…now what
Firstly, congrats! Huge step. I promise you, that the prep you just did, like my friend Ana said, will save you days, weeks, months…even years off of this process. And trust me, I have met people who have spent multiple years fumbling through getting their own career clarity because they haven’t taken the time to do this work.
When you commit to “job searching” what you’re saying is that you are ready to say “here I am world”.
The job search process starts the moment you put your personal brand out there to the world, either through telling people what you’re after, networking, cold calling, application submissions etc.
So here are some tips to keep this easeful party going.

Step 1: START WITH PREPARING FOR THE INTERVIEW YOU WANT TO HAVE
It might sound counterintuitive, but by going through the exercise of starting with your rockstar interview answers, you will be preparing yourself for submitting really solid job applications (and applying for the right jobs).

Step 2: get organized & project manage the job searching process
Use tools like Asana, Trello, Google Sheets, Excel or an old fashion notebook to keep track! It will help you keep on top of the details given the processes will likely all run at different times. AND you will be able to see how much work you have done so you can give yourself a pat on the back.
Step 3: set goals and target timelines
Be realistic with when you want to make a job move, what is happening in your life, when you’ll have time to job search and interview and then work backwards from there. The process will be more stressful than it needs to be if you are disregarding all you have going on in life!
Step 4: start with your network
Ask some trusted friends or past colleagues who they know that they could put you in touch with in the area of work you’re looking for.
Step 5: set automated job alerts
Places like Google, LinkedIn and Indeed can help you to keep on top of new job opportunities as they are posted in realtime. Start narrow with really solid parameters and filters, and then you can expand from there.
Step 6: job searching is about quality not quantity
Really ask yourself, is this even an option and if I could wave a magic wand and get this job tomorrow, would I take it?
If the answer is no, you should really take a beat before applying for that job.

Be intentional. Set time for yourself that you will be focusing on job searching so you don’t let it run your life, and you can still enjoy time for self-care and your family!
